PERABO COLLECTION. Vol. VIII. Airs from the cantatas and other works of Johann Sebastian Bach, arranged by [Robert Franz], for alto and tenor voices, with pianoforte accompaniment. References are given in the top right-hand margin of the leaves to the Bach Gesellschaft edition of the original compositions. Arranged as follows:-
(I) Seven airs for alto voice; numbered 2 to 8 (no. 1 missing). The collection was later rearranged in the order 7, 4, 3, 1, 6, 2, 8 and so numbered in the top left-hand corner. An English translation has been added in pencil to the original German text, and annotations made in preparation of the MS. for publication. This is doubtless the MS. as sent to Messrs. Ditson and Co., music publishers of Boston, U.S.A., whose edition appeared in 1859 (see Catalogue of the Allen A. Brown Collection of Music in the Public Library of Boston, i, 191 o, p. 66). Nos. 4 (ff. 7-11) and 8 (ff. 23-26) (original numeration) are probably in Franz's autograph.
(2) Nine airs for tenor voice, with German words only, the last part of no. 1 (ff. 31, 31b) being in Franz's autograph. A few corrections and annotations have been made in pencil. Apparently unpublished. Paper; ff. 65. Oblong folio. Circ. 1859.
