X. Six leaves, written on one side of the paper only, from autograph manuscripts of Guy de Maupassant (acquired with Nos. 41863-41865 above), viz.:-
(1) Two leaves, numbered 16 and 28, from Une Vie, in an earlier version, corresponding with considerable variations to pp. 129-130, 175-176 of the Conard edition of his works (29 vols., 1908-1910). ff. 122, 123;-(2) Two leaves, numbered 15 and 20, from a play in which the characters bear the names of Sallure and Randal. The play, in a very different form, finally appeared as La Paix du Ménage, with the names changed to Sallus and Randol. In the sketch Au Bord du Lit, published in 1883, which partly presents the theme, the name is also Sallure. ff. 124, 125;- (3) Two leaves, numbered 18 and 136, from a poetical play in Alexandrines published as 'un inédit' by P. Borel in Le Destin Tragique de Guy de Maupassant, 1927, with the title 'La Trahison de la Comtesse de Rhune'. The first leaf corresponds fairly closely to pp. 145- 146 of that edition, but the second differs widely from pp. 152-154. ff. 126, 127.
