- Title:
- Fragments from the Gospels of Matthew and John
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains portions from Matthew and John. Another part of the manuscript is found in Leipzig, University Library, Or. 1075.
These fragments contain an early Arabic rendition of the Gospels, presented in parallel with a Syriac rendition. As such, they serve as witnesses to the bilingual character of Christians in the Near East; a characteristic still pertaining to these communities today.
It contains Matthew 7:22-11:1; 11:22-12:10; 16:21-17:13; John 8:59-10:18; 16:13-18:3; 19:27-20:25.
Bilingual Arabic and Syriac renditions are found in parallel columns.
The manuscript is lacking a colophon, but was likely copied in the 10th century CE.
