- Scope & Content:
-
This manuscript is a Church of the East compilation of varied texts that are grouped together under a broad title that translates to "A Volume of Demonstrations from the Holy Fathers Against Various Heresies." It is divided into four subsections as follows:
ff. 1v-36r : Writings on the Union of the Two Natures of Christ, as well as related topics;
ff. 36r-94v: Writings against the followers of Julian of Halicarnassus;
ff. 94v-186r : Varied theological chapters on the writings of fathers "that know about the essence and being of the Holy Trinity";
ff. 186r-217v : A varied collection of works on the writings of various holy fathers ;
ff. 218r-221v : An incomplete index for the work.
The full listing of the authorities cited within each of these sections can be found in the catalogue entry in Wright, listed in the publications section of this record.
A note on f. 1v suggests that this volume had once been bound together with the Canons of the Apostles.
Apart from occasional water or ink stains, most folios are intact and in good condition, with the exception of ff. 24 and 25, which are torn. It appears that entire leaves of the original manuscript have been lost, particular after ff. 9, 23, 25, 118, 217 and 221.
The manuscript contains occasional marginal notes on the content of the work, in what appears to be one later hand. Although the manuscript itself does not contain vocalization, the marginal notes do feature the East Syriac system of vowels. F. 1v also features much larger marginal graffiti which appears to read "Min qanúne d-šlíḥe".
