CHRONICLE of the Brut in French, to the death of Hen. III: a text very closely agreeing with Cotton MS. Cleop. D. viii. After the rubric "Coment Brut vint primes en Engleterre e conquist la terre ci put hom oir," beg. "En la noble cite de graunt Troie," and ends "le Roi e martir, lan del incarnaci nostre seignur Ihesu Crist mcclxxii annz, de qi alme Deu eit mercy amen." Vellum (except ff. 1-4,145); ff. 145. Mid. XIVth cent. Initials in red and blue. On f. 144 b is the inscription "Usque satis," followed by a fancy signature, apparently Edm. Saunders [? Edmund Saunders, Chief Justice of the King's Bench 1683]. Belonged to [George Townshend, 2nd] Marquis of Townshend, and bought at his sale by [Thomas] Rod[d], from whom it passed (26 June, 1812, see f. 1 b) to C. Yarnold. At Yarnold's sale it was bought by Sir Thomas Phillipps (f. 4). Phillipps MS. 1050 (sale-cat., 1896, lot 9). 4 ½ X 3 ¼ inches.
