WARDROBE RECEIPT-BOOK of the latter part of 17 Edw. II. [1323-1324], being the first accompt of Robert Wodehouse on succeeding to the office of Keeper of the Wardrobe, approved by Robert de Holeden as Comptroller. It comprises the following portions:-
(1) Receipts in money [out of the Exchequer], from 20 Oct. [1323], when Wodehouse succeeded Roger de Waltham (cf. Stowe MS.
553). Latin. f 2;-(2) "Recepta forinseca," similar receipts from other sources. Latin. f. 3;-(3) Inventory of stock and accompt of receipts and outgoings in kind. Latin. f. 5;-(4) Inventory and accompt of "Jocalia et vessellamenta" (jewels and plate, etc.) for the same term, with notes of gifts made by the King, e.g. to the Queen, to St. Edward's shrine, Westminster, to St. Wulstan's shrine, Worcester, to the tomb of Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester, at Tewkesbury, etc. The inventory of things in the Tower is in French, the rest in Latin. For some of the entries cf. an Inventory of the same year printed by Palgrave, Antient Kalendars and Inventories, 1836, iii. p. 123. f 7. At the end (f. 15) is a paper sheet containing some transcripts in an 18th cent. hand. Vellum (except ff. 1, 15, 16); ff. 16. A.D. 1324. Folio. Belonged to Thomas Tanner (Bishop of St. Asaph, 1732-1735), the antiquary (f. 16). Also in the collection of Craven Ord (sale-cat., 1830, lot 1007, "from the collection of T[homas] Martin" [of Palgrave], bought by Payne, the bookseller). Phillipps MS. 4098 (sale-eat., 1897, lot 294). 13 X 9 inches.
