REGISTER of Royal Warrants, and other precedents, probably for us in the office of the Secretary of State (cf. Sloane MS. 856). Two compilations, the later containing a more varied collection of' documents, including bills of ambassadors' expenses, passports, etc. The earlier entries are chiefly warrants for Great Seals, Privy Seals, and other grants, arrests, etc. The dates included are:-
(1) Oct. 1661-Jan. 1664/5. f. 7;-(2) Sept. 1674-Aug. 1682. f. 216. In the latter part of this section there is some attempt at classification, under the headings (a) "Warrants, 1679. 1st copy." f. 283 -(b) Ambassadors' extraordinaries, etc., 1679. f. 286;-(c) "Letters, 1674, 1675. 1st copy." f. 287;-(d) "King's Letters, 1679[-1682]. 1st copy." f. 295;-(e) "Military Warrants," Feb. 167 8/9 -Apr. 1682. "1st copy." f. 302. An index rerum has been planned and begun at, f. 2 b, but only carried out for the letters A, B. Paper; ff. 311. Belonged to Gwyn (Clerk to the Council, 1679-1685, and under-secretary to the Earl of Conway, See. of State, 1681-3), of Ford Abbey, co. Devon, whose bookplate of arms (dated 1698) is within the cover. Bought by Sir T. Phillipps at the Ford Abbey sale, on the death of John Fraunceis Gwyn, in 1846 (sale-cat., lot 235). Phillipps MS. 12,125 (sale-cat., 1897, lot 114). Folio.
