CORRESPONDENCE, of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and other papers concerning his family or Drury Lane Theatre; 1770-1827. Sheridan's own letters, with those of his second wife and of his son Thomas, are mostly addressed to Richard Peake, treasurer of the theatre, and belong to the latter part (post 1792) of his life, while those addressed to him belong to the earlier (1770-1792). At the end (f. 215) are prologues and epilogues to plays, etc., including "Manuel" (f. 225), "Raising the Wind," by James Kenney (f. 231), "The Carib Chief" (f. 240), "Lost Life" (f. 245), "The Honeymoon," by James Tobin (f. 247), "De Montfort," by Joanna Baillie, the prologue said to be by Francis North, afterwards 4th Earl of Guilford (f. 252); several of later date (see the watermarks) than Sheridan's time. Cf. for the correspondence Eg. MSS. 1975, 1976, for the other papers Add. MSS. 25,906-26,036. The names of the writers will be found in the index. At f. 217 is an engraving of "Marmaduke Momus." Paper; ff. 281. Phillipps MSS. 18,472 and 18,504 (sale-cat., 1897, lot 702). Folio.
