Drawings of funeral processions, mostly in Indian ink (opaque black); those of Lady Lumley and Elizabeth I are in colour. Originally in rolls, the drawings are now inlaid in cardboard. Volume XV of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild's bequest to the British Museum.
ff. 1r–6v: 'Funeral processions of a Knight of the Garter and a Duchess.'
ff. 7r–9r: Funeral procession of Anne of Cleves, wife of Henry VIII (d. 1557).
ff. 10r–13r: Funeral procession of Sir Christopher Hatton (d. 1591).
ff. 14r–16v: Funeral procession of Mary, Queen of Scots (d. 1587).
ff. 17r–22v: Funeral procession of Lady Jane Lumley (d. 1578), daughter of Henry Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel, and first wife of John, Lord Lumley; with an epitaph in English and Latin, and her Latin prayers. On f. 22v is the statement 'A true report from Mr Richard Browne, Mr Richard Leuknor & Mr Dallender Esquires, who had the charge of these Funeralls.' Coloured figures and banners.
ff. 23r–25v: Funeral procession of Henry Ratcliffe, 4th Earl of Sussex (d. 1593).
ff. 26r–39r: Funeral procession of Queen Elizabeth (d. 1603), with coloured figures and banners. In all cases, names are written against the chief figures in the processions. Some attempt at portraiture seems to have been made in the case of Robert Cecil, Viscount Cranborne, on f. 35r. Another pen-and-ink copy is Add MS 5408. These manuscripts are the first pictorial records of the funeral procession of an English sovereign.
