TWO POLITICAL Tracts, in Latin, written in answer to Dante and for the Guelphic interest by Guido Vernanus of Rimini, a Dominican. Followed by excerpts from John of Salisbury and others. Contents:-
"De reprobatione false monarchie": a confutation of Dante's tract De Monareliia. Dedicated to Graciolus de Bambaiolis, chancellor of Bologna, who died ante 1343. The name of the author [fr. Guido Vernanus de Arimino ordinis fratrum predicatorum] is erased both in preface and colophon. Printed at Bologna, 1746. Preface beg.: "Suo Rarissimo filio Graciolo," and text "Diuiditur autem illud scriptuni." f. 2.
2. "Incipit tractatus . . . . de potestate summi pontificis," by the same. The author's name is erased from the rubric, but remains in the text. Printed as above. Preface beg. "Quia multi ex inordinato partis affectu," and text "Sicut dicit philosophus in primo politicorum Quecumque ex pluribus." Imperfect at end by loss of one leaf. f. 10.

5. A dialogue of ascetic or stoic origin. Beg. "Morieris . Responsio. Ista est hominis natura." f. 35.
6. Extracts from the Historia Monachorum (translated) by Rufinus, capp. xi.-xxxii. (Migne, Patr. Lat., vol. xxi. col. 429), the Verba Seniorum (Migne, lxxiii. cols. 801-810 and 856), the collection excerpted from Cassian (Migne, lxxiii. cols. 831-848) and other parts of the Vitae Patrum. Beg. "Fuit quidam uir sanctus Helenus nomine." f. 36 b.
7. A few extracts in another hand from the Variae of Cassiodorus. f. 45. Vellum; ff. 47. Written in Italy, XIVth cent. Belonged to the Dominicans of Rimini (see the remains of a note on the last cover recording a loan of it). Bound in wooden boards covered with red skin. Bought by the bookseller.
