" THE HONOUR of Fidelitie " : a panegyric in verse on the married life and death of Lady Catherine Grey, by John. Phillippe, " alumnus " of Queens' College, Cambridge, " dwelling in Woodstreete in London " (also known as John Phillips, v. Dict. Nat. Biog.). The poem, which ends imperfectly, begins " If duetie due to god and prince / On faithfulnes do stand," and contains upwards of 800 lines. lt extols the patience, resignation and piety of the lady, who had incurred the displeasure of Queen Elizabeth by her marriage (in l560) to Edward Seymour, Earl of Hertford. lt refers to her children and to Sir Owen Hopton, Lieutenant of the Tower, iii whose house at Cockfield she died a prisoner, 27 Jan. 1567. With a dedication to the Earl of Hertford and an " Argumentum" prefixed.
