2. "An Account of Religion by Reason," by Sir John Suckling. Printed in Fragmenta Aurea (London, 1646). f. 11.
3. Two Latin speeches at Cambridge University Comitia, viz.: (a) Præevaricatio a magistro Fuller die Comitiorum habita Juli. by Thomas Fuller, fellow of Christ's College, afterwards vicar of Navenby, co. Linc., and rector of Willingale Doe, co. Essex. The endorsement makes the date 1652. f. 29;-(b) "Oratio præva- [ri]catoria," by "Mr. Darlby," of Jesus College, [1659]. f. 33.
4. Elementary Anglo-Saxon Grammar, in Latin. Apparently in the hand of Sir Hen. Spelman (ob. 1641). f. 39.
5. The laws of Edmund and laws and canons of Edgar in Anglo-Saxon: a transcript from the Cambridge MS. (Corpus Christi College No. 201), probably made for Abraham Whelock's edition of Lambarde's ' (Cambridge, 1644). The date 25 Oct. 1637 occurs (f. 56) in the middle. f 44.
6. "The arte of Characterye": a system of shorthand by Timothy Bright, M.D., agreeing (with the omission of part of the dedication and the table of synonyms) with the printed edition of 1588 (unique copy in the Bodleian, reprinted Ulverstone, 1888). A specimen of Bright's writing is in Lansd. MS. 51, f. 56 b. f. 70.
7. Arms, in colours, of the family of Moseley (of Buildwas, co. Salop) and its connexions, comprising 27 coats with particulars of births and deaths, etc.; post 1686. f 76.
8. Accompt for diet of Sir Henry Spelman, as high sheriff of Norfolk, at Norwich assizes, 1605. f. 89.
9. "The answer from the officers and others appointed within the towne of Hunstanton [co. Norf.] to the 40 articles given ill charge by warrant from Henry Taylour and Robert Longe Esquries": a return showing various burdens borne by the town, circ. 1639- 1645. The name of John Spelwan occurs as well as that of (Sir Henry Spelman's brother-in-law) Sir Hamon L'Estrange. f. 94.
10. Charms against witchcraft, magical and medical recipes, contained in two Latin epistles. The first is imperf . at the beginning and is dated "ex ciuitate Prapolitana Francorum," 10 Oct. 1508. The second is entitled "Synusiastes," and is addressed by "Melanius Triandricus" to "Rex Jaymiel," dat. 20 Oct. 1508. The hand is apparently German. ff. 99, 102.
11. Antiqarian notes, of the end of the 17th cent., on place-names, church-dedication, seals, coins, etc. Included are an engraved facsimile of a charter "olim in bibliotheca D'Ewesiana" and some notes on coinage, apparently copied from a MS. of Sir Simonds D'Ewes ("huc usque propria manu domini Sim. Dewes"). f. 108. Paper; ff. 131. XVIIth cent. Belonged to Dawson Turner, who bound the volume (sale-cat. 1859, lot 8). A description of the contents by Sir F. Palgrave (f. 1 b) is dated Dec. 1842. Phillipps MS. 21,538 (sale-cat. 1899, lot 1090). 9 ½ X 7 ¼ in.
