HARDWICKE PAPERS. Vol. LXXXIII. Military correspondence of Lt.-Col. Sir Joseph Yorke (Baron Dover 1788), chiefly when aide-de-camp to William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, Commander-in-chief in the Netherlands in 1745 and 1747 and in Scotland in 1746; 1742-1748. The allusions to the Scotch campaign and to Culloden are not numerous, but in Col. Yorke's letters and reports to the Duke and in his correspondence with the Earl of Sandwich, Ambassador-Extraordinary to the Hague (1746- 1748), succinct accounts are given of the movements of the Allied Army in Flanders, including the actions at Fontenoy (11 May, 1745) and at Val or Laeffelt, near Maestricht (2 July, 1747), and the siege of Bergen-op-Zoom (August, etc., 1747).
