These are evidently (cf. notes on ff. 256 b, 296 b) the "a-la-mains" sent to Philip Yorke, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke, by Dr. John Jeffreys, at this time resident in Paris, and so frequently referred to in the latter's letters (cf.
