HARDWICKE PAPERS. Vol. CCCCLXVI. Contemporary copies of Vidimus and recital by John Olney, Lord Mayor of London, of two series of documents relating to the release of Jean d'Orléans, Comte d'Angoulême, detained in England as a hostage for the repayment of certain sums of money lent to Charles, Due d'Orléans, his brother, in 1412. The first series comprises bonds, etc., from the Comte d'Angoulême to Margaret, widow of John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset, all dated Louviers, 1 April, 1445, the day after his release. The second series consists of bonds for the payment of the balance from (a) Charles, Duc d'Orléans. lmperfect. f. 4 b;-

Two bonds. ff. 5, 5 b; -(d) Andrieu [de Montfort] de Laval, Seigneur de Loheac; Tours, 15 May, 1444. f. 6. The beginning of the first Vidimus, including the date, is lost; the second is dated 28 Feb. 1446[7], but two leaves from the middle of it (containing bonds of the Dukes of Alençon and Bourbon) are also lost. Vellum; ff 7. Given (f. 7 b) to the Hon. Charles Yorke in 1767 by J[ohn] Whiston, the bookseller. Folio.
