HARDWICKE PAPERS. Vol. DCCLXIII. Notes on the Courts of Admiralty and Requests, etc., by Sir Julius Cæsar, Judge of the Admiralty Court 1584, Master of Requests 1591, Master of the Rolls 1614-1636. Autograph. The chief contents are:-
1. The names of such counselors as sat and judged in the Court of Requests (nowe so called) tempore Hen. 7" [-Eliz.]. f. 2.
2. References to Law Treatises and Statutes proving the authority of the King's Council. f. 5 b.
3. "The copy of mine oath, when I was sworne Master of Requests, 10 January. 1590" [1]. f. 8.
4. "Notes out of the Charter of London, gathered by mee, J. C. al. A[delmare]"; 24 Dec. 1582-12 Jan. 1582[3]. f. 9.
5. "Th' expositions of certaine old wordes in the charter of the citizens of London," marked as "founde amongst the notes of R. L." f. 22 b.
6. Minute of a Common Council of London, 2 Apr. 21 Hen. VIII. [1530], relating to grants of offices in reversion, with form of grant to evade the minute. f. 24.
7. Charge to the jury and (f. 32 b) speech in giving judgment on pirates in the Admiralty Court, with other notes on the court. f. 26.
8. "Concessiones facte Carolo, domino Howard, Admirallo Anglie, etc., per litteras patentes"; 8 July, 27 Eliz. [1583]. f. 39 b.
9. "Actes, orders and decrees," extracted from the records of the Court of Requests, 9 Hen. VII.-27 Eliz. [1494-1585], with some miscellaneous extracts at the end; dated 13 Feb. 1592[3]. f. 42. Paper; ff. 212. xvith cent. Numbered 163 in Cæsar's library and 95 in his sale-catalogue, 1757 (v. Lansd. MS. 123), when it was purchased by Philip Carteret Webb. Stamped leather binding.
