1. "A Brief Geneological (sic)-Historical Account of the Origin ... of Mackenzie from Colin the First Baron of Kintail, to Kenneth the Third Earl of Seaforth's death, which happened 16th of September 1678. Written first in several letters to a friend, and now collected into one continued discourse, by J[ohn] M[acRa, Minister of Dingwall, d. 1704]." The bulk of the MS. (ff.,1-43) is in an earlier band and was bought from a London bookseller, Russell Smith, in 1849 by Lewis Mark Mackenzie; the rest has been added in various hands from other copies (see notes on ff. 2, 45 b, 46). Later owners were. A[ugustus] C[olin] Mackenzie of Mountgerald, 15 Mar. 1863; and Sir James D. Mackenzie, [7th] Bart. f. 2.
