A. Compotus of Edmund de Brokesbourne, treasurer of war to Thomas Plantagenet [of Woodstock], Duke of Gloucester, as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, April-23 July 1392 (cf. Cal. of Close Rolls 1389-1392, p. 463, and Cotton MS. Titus B. xi, f. 19). The account covers the period 21 April 15 Rich. II [1392]-9 Sept. 16 Rich. II [13921 and comprises various sums issued in the Exchequer for the Duke's expedition to Ireland and their expenditure. Actually the Duke was superseded as Lord Lieutenant by Roger Mortimer, Earl of March, before he had embarked for Ireland (cf. J. Graves, King's Council in Ireland, Rolls Series, 1877, p. 255, who wrongly dates the document printed there in 1393, cf. Titus B. xi, f. 15). The headings are as follows:-(a) "Recepcio denariorum ad receptam seaccarii";-
(b) "Expensa necessaria";-(c) "Empcio artelrie";-(d) "Necessaria pro artelria";-(e) "Vadia et rewarda retinencie";-
(f) "Feoda et vadia consilii";-(g) "Annuitates";-(h) "Soluciones fforincece," including a payment of 1981. 9s. 7d. to Johannes van Brynk, goldsmith of London, for various silver vessels bought for the Duke's journey;-(i) "Solucio debitorum domini ducis Gloucestrie," including a payment of 20l. to Alexander Scot, master and Robert Warner, constable, of the ship "Le Christofre de Leuyngton" in which the duke had sailed to Prussia towards the end of 1391 (cf. Cal. of Patent Rolls 1388-1392, p. 482);-(k) "Solucio denariorum domino duci,;-(1) "Soluciones facte domine ducisse de dono domini";-(m) "Solucio debitorum domini in partibus Essexic";-(n) "Liberacio denariorum clerico garderobe domini";-
(o) "Liberacio denariorum thesaurario hospieii domini." Vellum. 11 ft. 3 in. x 1 ft. Five membranes.
