SHELTON YOUNG COLLECTION. Vol. CLXIX. Roll- Chronicle of the municipality of Salisbury, co. Wilts, 1327-1703, each year bearing the name of the mayor as well as the date. Until the end of the 15th century local references are rare (see 1360, 1449). The roll may have been undertaken about 1626, the entries up to that year seeming to be in one hand. Thereafter four or more hands appear. Particularly full entries are to be found under 1687, 1688. Another, but shorter, chronicle similarly arranged was printed at Salisbury in 1817, as A Collection of Remarkable Events Relative to the City of New Sarum. On the verso is a list of mayors of Salisbury, 1328-1689. Here the original hand appears to end at 1638. It resembles the main hand of the Chronicle. Hereafter two hands have made additions. From 1671 to 1689 the names are accompanied by historical notes. As far as the names go the list is in fairly close agreement with that printed by Sir Richard Colt Hoare, History of Modern Wiltshire, vol. vi (Old and New Sarum), pp. 695-698, though the dates vary in many cases.
