E. Certificate by John Wesley to Richard Whatcoat and Thomas Vasey of their appointment as elders for the work of the ministry in America; 2 Sept. 1784. Hologr. draft. They had been ordained deacons on the previous day; cf. T. E. Brigden in Proc. Wesley Historical Soc., vii,1910,pp.8-11. N. Curnock, 1909-1921, vii, opp. p. 16. Followed (f. 21) by an engraving of Wesley, aet. 87, after John Renton, for which cf. J. Telford, Sayings and Portraits of John Wesley, 1924, p. 183. f. 20. Lot 57 in Christie's sale-cat., 31 Mar. 1925.
