- Title:
- Egarātā marmiyātā d-ḥakímā parsāyā - ܐܕܪܬܐ ܡܪܡܝܬܐ ܕܚܟܝܡܐ ܦܪܣܝܐ
- Scope & Content:
-
A codex of two Syriac texts copied at different times, both of which are imperfect. These are the first and second parts of the works of Aphrates, the contents of which are as follows:
Text 1
ff. 2r-11v : An introduction to the works, followed by ܬܣܝܬܐ ܕܣܝܡܢܘܬܐ;
ff. 11v-23r : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܚܘܒܐ;
ff. 23r-31v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܨܘܡܐ;
ff. 31v-42r : An imperfect recension of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܨܠܘܬܐ;
ff. 42r-50r : An imperfect recension of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܩ̈ܪܒܐ;
ff, 50r-66r : An imperfect recension of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܒ̈ܢܝ ܩܝܡܐ;
ff. 66r-75r : An imperfect recession of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕ̈ܬܝܒܐ;
ff. 75r-85v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܚܢܬ ܡ̈ܝܬܐ;
ff. 85v-93v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܡܟܝܟܘܬܐ;
ff. 93v-99r : ܬܚܝܘܬܐ ܕ̈ܪܥܘܬܐ;
f. 99r : The colophon, followed by a note in a smaller hand that the book was purchased in Ríšᶜaynā (Rās al-ᶜayn) by the Monk Múšā of Nisibis, for the Convent of St. Mary Deipara.
On f. 99v contains a number of faded inscriptions in Syriac, all of which pertain to the ownership and sale of the manuscript. The longest, in a more cursive hand, states that the book was purchased by Mār Maním, the priest of a church in the village of Ḥadíštā, in 785 AG (474 CE), when Timotheus was Bishop in the region. The scribe states further that the manuscript itself was written in Edessa. A second note, which is also partially effaced, states that the book was once the property of a man named Yešúᶜ.
This section of the manuscript contains numerous instances of marginalia in Syriac, Arabic and Coptic, as well as some geometric patterns in black ink, alongside effaced and illegible Coptic and Syriac graffiti, on f. 1b.
Many of the folios are stained or torn, and f. 7 appears to be a later addition to this part of the text.
Text 2
ff. 100r-102v : An imperfect recension of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ;
ff. 102v-118r : An imperfect recension of ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܝܕ ܕܦܝܣܐ;
ff. 118r-122r : ܕܥܠ ܦܘܪܫ ܡ̈ܐܟܠܬܐ ;
ff. 122r-125r : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܫܬܥܣ̈ܪܐ ܕܥܠ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܕܗܘܘ ܚܠܦ ܥܡܐ;
ff. 125r-128v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܠܥܝܢ (؟) ܕܢܚܘܐ ܥܠ ܡܫܝܚܐ ;
ff. 128v-131v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܝܚ ܕܠܘܩܒܠ ܝܗܘ̈ܕܝܐ ܘܥܠ ܒܬܘܠܘܬܐ ܘܩܕܝܫܘܬܐ ;
ff. 131v-136v : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܝܚ ܕܠܘܩܒܠ ܝܗܘ̈ܕܝܐ ܥܠ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܩܝܡ ܗܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܬܟܢܫܘ ;

ff. 147v-155r : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܡܘܬܐ ܘܕܙ̈ܒܢܐ ܐܚ̈ܪܝܐ;
ff. 155r-174r : ܬܚܘܝܬܐ ܕܛܘܛܝܬܐ;
f. 174r : Colophon, in which the scribe provides the name of the work ;
f. 174v : A note by the scribe of the work, partially effaced, which contains the date 823 AG (512 CE), as well as the name and location of the owner, both of which are now illegible. The bottom of the page also has several letters that may be Coptic, the majority of which have now been effaced.
A Latin inscription is found on f. 175, which is a considerably smaller piece of vellum soaked in oil. The text includes Luke XII 23, 24 and 32.
This text also contains sporadic marginalia, including an inscription on f. 174r recording the name of Abraham Bar Núnas.
The manuscript is deficient, missing several pages from the main text. Several folios are stained or torn.
