"MADRID correspondence. Colonel [William] Stanhope [lst Lord Harrington in 1729, and Earl of Harrington in 1742]. From January 1721 to the end of the year." Original dispatches written by Colonel Stanhope, whilst Envoy in Spain, to three Secretaries of State, viz.: James Craggs, Charles, 2nd Viscount Townshend, and John, 2nd Lord Carteret. Included are many copies of letters addressed to Stanhope, principally from the Prime Minister of Spain, Joseph, Marques de Grimaldo; together with original letters, etc., from Consul John Parker to Colonel Stanhope; Corunna, 2 Mar. 1721, f. 54; Charles Holzendorf, Colonel Stanhope's secretary, to Temple Stanyan, Under Secretary of State; Madrid, 9 June, 1721, f. 114; [Marchese] Annibale Scotti, Envoy to Spain from the Duke of Parma, to Colonel Stanhope; Balsain [or Valsain, near Segovia], 14, 21 Sept. 1721.
