ORIGINAL letters of Joseph Henshaw, Bishop of Peterborough, to John Palmer, Archdeacon of Northampton, together with autograph duplicates of the Archdeacon's letters in reply, and a few other papers, most of them enclosures and relating chiefly to a commission for the inspection of hospitals and raising a public loan; 31 July, 1665-18 Sept. 1667. Included are also: 1. Original letters to Archdeacon Palmer from; James Thornton [secretary of the Bishop of Peterborough]; Peterborough, 17 Dec. 1665, f. 34; [Sir] G[eorge] Downing [Bart., Teller of the Exchequer]; Westminster, 22 May, 1666, f. 41; Elizabeth Haselwood [wife of Will. Haselwood, of Maidwell]; Maidwell, 24 Aug. 1666, f. 67.
2. Protest of Archdeacon Palmer, that, by appearing at the triennial visitation about to be held in Peterborough Cathedral on the 23rd of July, he does not intend to countenance the prorogation of the said visitation; dat. Ecton, 15 July, 1667. Lat. Holograph. Signed, "Johannes Palmer;" and witnessed by Alexander Ekins, Rector of Orlingbury, the Rev. Samuel Freeman [Dean of Peterborough in 1691], and Thos. Maydwell, Public Notary and Registrar of the Archdeaconry of Northampton, f. 101. Paper. Folio.
