EGMONT PAPERS. Vol. CXXXIII (ff. 111). Miscellaneous papers, as follows:-
(1) Copies and extracts of deeds relating to England and Ireland, 14th-17th centt., including an original feodary's survey (f. 6) of lands of James Perceval (d. 1593) in Somerset, 1 Oct. 1594. ff. 1-13.
(2) Papers relating to legal proceedings; circ. 1659-1684, n.d. ff. 14-22.
(3) Miscellaneous estate papers; 1664-1697, n.d. ff. 23-29b.
(4) Miscellaneous papers relating to Ireland, early 17th cent., some probably acquired by Sir Philip Perceval in his capacity as Registrar of the Court of Wards. ff. 30-96. The chief contents are:-(a) Description of Leinster and part of Ulster, recording, under counties, the names of the principal landowners and their estates; circ. 1600. For most of Leinster the account closely resembles the Perambulation of Leinster, 1596, printed in Calendar of the Carew Manuscripts . . . at Lambeth, 1589-1600, ed. J. S. Brewer and W. Bullen, 1869, pp. 188-196. ff. 30-41b;-(b) Survey of part of co. Roscommon, giving the denominations of lands under each parish, their area in Irish and English measurements and the owners' names; temp. Charles I. Apparently a copy, and in view of a contemporary foliation running from 39 to 81, imperfect. The present text, which is evidently related to the inquisitions known as the Strafford Survey, 1635-1637, covers the Baronies of:-(i) Roscommon, omitting Clooncraw parish but including parts of the Barony of Boyle. ff. 54-73b;-(ii) Athlone. ff. 74-95b. It roughly corresponds with the appropriate sections of the contemporary survey printed by the Irish Manuscripts Commission as County of Roscommon, ed. R. C. Simington, 1949 (Books of Survey and Distribution, i), though the king is named as the owner of many lands where the printed work records the original proprietors. The denominations are preceded by reference numbers which in the case of Athlone agree with the numbers on the surviving Strafford Survey map of the Barony (ib., pp. xlviii-l and accompanying maps). ff. 54-95b.
(5) Notebook kept by Edward Lloyd, steward, containing correspondence and memoranda relating to estate business during the minority of the 1st Lord Egmont; 1693-1698. ff. 97-11lb.
