The principal contents are:-(1) 'The Earle of Pembrock's speech in the house of Peers when the 7 Lords were accused of high Treason': a pretended speech of Philip Herbert, 4th Earl of Pembroke. Printed with the same title, 1648. ff. 1-4b;-(2) 'An occasionall reflection upon Dr. Charleton's feeling a dog's pulse at Gresham Colledge, London, 1668, by Rob. Boyle, Esquire': a satire by Samuel Butler on the writings of the Hon. Robert Boyle. Printed in Butler's Satires and Miscellaneous Poetry and Prose, ed. R. Lamar, 1928, pp. 341-343. ff. 5-6b;-(3) Mock speeches, in Latin, said to have been delivered at Oxford and Cambridge, apparently to James, Duke of Monmouth. ff. 7-8. Added at ff. 8-12 are poems in the hand of Sir John Perceval, 3rd Bart., aft. 1670, including:-(a) Epitaph on Mary Herbert (d. 1621), widow of Henry, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, by William Browne of Tavistock (see Crum, op. cit., U 59). f. 8;-(b) 'A Dream', beg. 'Scarce had ye Sun perform'd his Course'. ff. 8, 9;-(c) 'The World a Cheat', beg. 'Fond world noe more, withdraw thy treacherous bates'. f. 8b;-(d) A series of Latin poems, including verses relating to George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle, and his death, 3 Jan. 1669/70 (ff. 10b, 11) and to the death in 1669 of Queen Henrietta Maria (f. 11). ff. 9b-11b;-(e) Beg. 'Gaze not on Swans on whose soft brest' (Crum, op. cit.,G 15). ff. 11b-12.
