EGMONT PAPERS. Vol. CCLXXII. Egmont MS. 282/2. Roll pedigree of the Lewis family with coats of arms in colour, made in, or about 1630 (see the reference at the end to William Lewis, merchant of London 'Ao 1630', another hand having added details of his son's birth in 1631). The main hand used is very similar to that of Jacob Chaloner (d. 1631), arms painter of Chester (cf. Add. MS. 47185). The pedigree is traced from various early dynasties of North Wales including that of Rhodri Mawr (d. 876), and through another branch from John Lacy, Constable of Chester (d. 1190). A large coloured achievement of arms at the foot: quarterly, 1st and 4th arg. a chevron sa. between three choughs, each bearing in its beak an ermine spot (Lewis); 2nd or a lion passant guardant gu.; 3rd, gu. a chevron betw. three lions rampant or. Numbered '31' on the dorse.
