EGMONT PAPERS. Vol. CCLXXIV (ff. iii+69). Egmont MS. 247. 'Catalogue of the Books, Manuscripts &c., in the College of Arms, London. Transcribed by James Greene Bluemantle Pursuivant of Arms 1719' (title, f. 1). James Green (d. 1737) was clerk successively to Sir Henry St. George, the younger, and John Anstis, Garters. The MS. is a literal transcript of a copy made by 'R[obert] D[ale], B[lanch] L[yon]' (see f. 36), of the 1690 general catalogue of the College of Arms Library, with additions of 1694 (ff. 51-57), 1710 (ff. 16b, 22b, 48b), and 1712/3 (f. 22b); see A. R. Wagner, The Records and Collections of the College of Arms, 1952, p. 35. Annotations at f. 14 are possibly by Robert Dale himself. At ff. 63-68 is an index, and the name of a subsequent owner (?), 'Peter Shakerley of Brasen-nose Coll. Oxon' (d. 1781; cf. Alumni Oxonienses, 2nd series, vol. iv) is at f. 69. Another copy of the catalogue, either from the present MS. or from a common source, is Lansdowne MS. 689.
