EGMONT PAPERS. Vol. CCLXXIX. Egmont MS. 174. 'Escaetria ab anno 1o H 4 [1399] ad annum 15 Edw. 4 [1476]': register comprising abstracts of escheats or inquisitions post mortem, arranged chronologically; 17th cent. Latin. Paper; ff. v+411. XVII cent. (watermark, a pot, similar to Heawood, Watermarks, no. 3555). Contemporary foliation in roman numerals; an 18th cent.(?) pagination to f. 250b. The signature of 'H[enry] Powle', Speaker of the Convention Parliament and Master of the Rolls (d. 1692), appears with press-mark 'A.42' at f. ii (cf. a press-mark from the same series in another MS. belonging to Powle, Add. MS. 32087). Numbered (f. ii) 'Rec[ords] 22','C.22' (later altered to 'C.37') and '1 G. 14' in the collection of John Somers, Baron Somers of Evesham, Lord Chancellor (d. 1716); see the catalogue of his MSS. in Harley MS. 7191, f. 64. Afterwards belonged to Sir Joseph Jekyll (d. 1738), Master of the Rolls (sale-cat. 26 Feb.-2 Mar. 1738/9, lot 169) and later to William Whiston, junior, Clerk of the Records (joint author of The House of Yvery, vol. ii), whose signature and press-mark 'E' appear at f. iii. Annotations in a Perceval hand are at ff. 391, 410.
