MEYERSTEIN BEQUEST. Vol. IX (ff. ii+120). Concerto, op. 61, for violin or piano by Ludwig van Beethoven, in score; bef. Aug. 1808. Copy, with autograph annotations by the composer relating to expression marks, accidentals, etc., in pencil and red crayon. No title-page. One leaf, at least, containing the first four bars of music, is missing from the beginning of the manuscript. The present score is the chief source of the simultaneous publication of both the violin and piano versions of the concerto by the Bureau des Arts et d'Industrie, Vienna, August 1808, to which the page castings in red pencil (not in Beethoven's hand)

The manuscript was presented by Beethoven to Charles Neate, the English pianist, in February 1816 (Tyson, 1963, p. 56). Paper. 235 mm. × 310 mm. Belonged to Charles Neate; acquired at the sale of his effects (Sotheby's sale-cat., 7-8 Dec. 1911, lot 259) by Bertram Dobell; subsequently purchased from James Tregaskis, in April 1914, by E. H. W. Meyerstein (his note on f. ii, bookplate f. i). On f. 120b, 19th cent. annotation, 'Pössinger Pressant'.
