MEYERSTEIN BEQUEST. Vol.. XIII (ff. v+96). Printed editions of piano concertos nos. 1-5 and the quintet for piano and strings by John Field; 1815- 1817 (cf. C. Hopkinson, A Bibliographical Thematic Catalogue of ... John Field, 1961). Piano parts only. Concertos nos. 1-4 and the quintet are the edition of Breitkopf and Härtel, Leipzig, [1815-1816]; all except concerto no. 3 bear the label of Charles Lissner, St Petersburg, on their title-pages. Concerto no. 5 is the edition published by the composer and Charles Lissner, St Petersburg, [1817]. Numerous pencil annotations and corrections, and amendment slips (formerly paste-downs) in ink and pencil are partly in Field's hand. Some of the corrections, particularly those in concertos nos. 1 and 4, were incorporated in later editions of Field's concertos by D'Almaine, London, aft. 1817, and Pacini, Paris, [circ. 1820] (cf. Music and Letters, xliii, 1962, pp. 140, 168-169). Paper. 310 mm.×240 mm. 1815-1817. Belonged to W. H. Cummings (f. iii). See also Sotheby's sale-cat., 17-24 May, 1917, lot 669; Ellis cat., Oct. 1928, item 132 (f. v). The name 'Mr. Parke (?)' (William Thomas Parke?) occurs on a strip of brown paper (f. ii) from the spine of the former binding. An engraved portrait of Field, formerly mounted on a flyleaf, is now preserved in Add. MS. 47843, f. 127.
John Field, composer and pianist: Piano concertos, etc.: 1818-[1820?].: Printed, with autogr.(?) corrections.
