MEYERSTEIN BEQUEST. Vol. XIV (ff. i+38). Miscellaneous music by Johann Nepomuk Hummel:-
(1) 'Lass uns in Trauer scheiden', duet from the opera 'Jeannot und Colin', op. 72, with piano accompaniment; [circ. 1816]. Autograph. Two bifolia (ff. 2-5), 305 mm.×230 mm., and original blue paper cover (f. 1). The present manuscript was sent to Steiner and Co., Vienna, for publication (cf. the note to the engraver and plate no. '2488', f. 2, note by Aloys Fuchs, f. 1, and page castings in red pencil). Owned by Aloys Fuchs, 1824, and subsequently lot 88 in an unidentified French sale-cat. (f. i). Notes in English, aft. 1837, on f. 1b. Further annotations (f. 1) include: 'No. 25' in red; 'Mrs. Fori', 'Hennessy' in pencil. ff. 1-5.
(2) '24 Studies (Etudes) for the Pianoforte', op. 125, containing however only nos. 2, 8, 11-15, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, of the set published by Cramer, Addison and Beale, London, [1833], to which the page and line castings in pencil refer. Copy, 230 mm.×320 mm., revised by the composer, who entered the number and key at the beginning of each study, fingering, etc. Title-page and other notes (f. 6) in Hummel's hand, including a cancelled dedication to Miss Mary Alexander. ff. 6-21b.
(3) 'Grand Rondo brillante for the Pianoforte and German Flute', op. 126, dedicated to Miss Anne Joanne Alexander; circ. 1835. Copy, 240 mm.×320 mm., in the same hand as item (2) above, with title-page (f. 22) in Hummel's hand. The present manuscript bears page and line castings in pencil for the edition Grand Duet, Concertante, for the Piano Forte, and Flute, Cramer, Addison and Beale, London, [1835]. Piano and separate flute part. ff. 22-38b.
