MEYERSTEIN BEQUEST. Vol. XXII (ff. i+4). 'Der Erste Ton': keyboard score of the final, choral section, beg. 'Drum Preis dir Ton', of the poem by Johann Friedrich Rochlitz set for speaker and chorus by Carl Maria von Weber; revised version, 1810. Autograph. Two bifolia. The voice parts are entered only at the beginning and end. The work was first composed in 1808 (F. W. Jähns, Carl Maria von Weber ... Chronologisch-thematisches Verzeichniss, 1871, no. 58). The present manuscript was owned by Nikolaus Simrock (cf. ff. 1, 3) and was used for the Simrock edition of the keyboard score, to which the pencil annotations passim relate. Ink annotations on f. 4b, in a 19th cent. hand, do not relate to the present manuscript but to revisions to another musical score. Three letters from Franz Anton von Weber, father of the composer, to J. F. Rochlitz relating to 'Der Erste Ton' are in Add. MS. 47843, ff. 63-66b. Paper. 230 mm.×305 mm. Circ. A. D. 1810. Belonged to Nikolaus Simrock. Folder of red leather (rebacked), with gold-tooled lettering and borders, by Ferdinand Bakala, Vienna. Pencil catalogue no. (f. i), '60/39'.
