Letter of Isias to her husband Hephaestion, showing disappointment at the news of his not returning home and his remaining secluded in the Sarapieion in Memphis. After the hardships she has faced with their child, she was hoping to find some rest with his return. She begs him to come back, for the sake of everyone, including his mother, who is distressed. With address on the back.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, with a darker patch in the lower half, complete, displaying holes throughout and damaged in the upper right corner; written on both sides along the fibres, the back bearing one word. On the front there is one column of 32 lines, complete; all margins are extant, with the lower and right being minimal. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case with the exception of a small window on the back, which shows the writing.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 323 x 162 mm; housed in a glass case measuring 340 x 180 mm.
Script: Good, upright hand, with few ligatures; exhibiting some serifs and elongated strokes; compressed and smaller in places; with interlinear additions. Perhaps Dionysius (brother of Hephaestion)’ hand (Sarri 2017).
