Materials: Papyrus
Dimensions: 210 x 313 mm, housed in a glass case measuring 270 x 380 mm.
Script: Lines 1–2 are written by a notary – tabellio or forensis – with an upright professional and very regular new Roman cursive, in which sporadic double dots occur between words. - Custodial History:
-
Origin: Ravenna.
Provenance: Ravenna. It comes from the archbishop’s archive of Ravenna. The roll was probably still entirely preserved in the seventeenth century; then one fragment came to the count Lazara (Padua), to Scipione Maffei, and then to the Vatican Library (1740); another fragment went to Padua, where it was acquired by Antonio Vallisnieri and entered the city university (ca. 1713); a third fragment was owned by the Negrisoli family (Mantua), and in 1876 was acquired by the British Museum from Miss L. Starr.
