Upper papyrus (P.Lond. II 157a, TM 28010): An order to some slaves to return what was stolen from the house of a fellow-slave, a camel-herd, or else to bring everything to the sender.
Lower Papyrus (P.Lond. II 157b, TM 31207): Fragmentary receipt acknowledging that Ammonous has received 8 artabas of barley from Apeilas on account of one arura and a half of land near Psenharpsenesis that Apeilas is renting from her.

Two papyrus sheets that do not belong together, mounted on cardboard in the same glass case.
Upper papyrus (Papyrus 157 A): complete, with few wormholes along the vertical folds and the upper and right edges. The text runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. All margins are extant, with the blank space at the bottom measuring 65 mm.
Lower papyrus (Papyrus 157 B): broken off at the bottom and damaged on top, having lost its upper margin. The text runs along the fibres on one side, with the back blank. The left margin is extant; no margin was left to the right. A few wormholes are visible.

Script: A: Thin, sloping hand of fair size, detached, with some ligatured sequences of letters; B: Rough, sloping hand of medium size, thicker in places, occasionally detached.

Provenance: A: Egypt; B: Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Both papyri were purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 139-176 from the Reverend Greville John Chester (b. 1830, d. 1892) on 2 February 1891.
