A letter of Flavius Macarius, procurator of the imperial estates, to Abinnaeus, prefect of the camp at Dionysias, with instructions to send a military detachment to assist with the collection of imperial taxes as per orders from above. Should Abinnaeus refuse, the dux of Egypt will be informed. The address is on the back.

Fully preserved light-brown papyrus sheet, with only the top left corner missing. Writing is on both sides along the fibres, the back having a one-line docket written perpendicularly to the text on the recto. Margins are extant, the bottom and right being minimal. The papyrus is housed in a glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 270 x 170 mm; housed in a glass case measuring 320 x 220 mm.
Script: Large semi-cursive hand of chancery type, with tall letters and ligatured sequences. A second hand, smaller, rougher and slightly slanting to the right, is found in the last lines; a third hand, still large and upright, may have written the address on the back.

Origin: Arsinoite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Philadelpheia, meris of Herakleides, or Dionysias, meris of Themistos, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 229-255 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 14 January 1893.
