Declaration of Camels (P.Lond. II 328, TM 11709)

A declaration addressed to the strategus and royal scribe of the division of Herakleides in the Arsinoite nome from by Harpagathes, son of Satabous, of Soknopaiou Nesos. Harpagathes declares that of the two camels and one foal registered in the previous year, one camel was requisitioned by the prefect to serve on the caravan route between Berenike and the Nile, and another camel for transporting a porphyry column. Papyrus sheet, complete, with few small holes and minor surface damage. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. The text is complete and consists of one column of 29 lines; all margins are extant. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.
