A letter from Chaeremon, decurion of Arsinoe, to Abinnaeus, who is being rebuked for his neglection in investigating into the outrages committed by some evildoers in the village of Theoxenis. The perpetrators were simply carried away as if there were no laws. They should be sent for inquiry or the matter will be taken further.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, lacking its top left edge, written on one side along the fibres. Of the twenty-two lines of the text, the first seven are fragmentary. Margins are extant, the right being minimal. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Script: Regular and neat cursive hand of medium size; corrections and deletions occur.

Provenance: Philadelpheia, meris of Herakleides, or Dionysias, meris of Themistos, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 401-447 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 15 May 1893.
