Light-brown leaf from a papyrus codex, with a darker stain at the top on the front, partly mutilated at the sides and broken off at the top. It originally consisted of four fragments, two inventoried as Papyrus 455 and two as Papyrus 1849.
It bears writing on both sides, along the fibres on the front and across them on the back. The front bears portions of 24 lines, the back parts of 21 lines. The ink has turned brown. The papyrus is housed in a glass case named Papyrus 455+1849.

Script: Large and thick uncial, slightly sloping to the right; abbreviations widely used.

Origin: Egypt.
Provenance: Egypt. Papyrus 455 was purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 450-458 and Coptic papyri from Theodor Graf (b. 1840, d. 1903) in March 1893 and transferred from the Oriental Department of the British Museum in November 1893. Papyrus 1849 was part of a lot comprising Papyri 1848-1857 taken from the Assyrian Keeper’s room of the British Museum in 1910.
