Upper papyrus (A) (P.Petrie Kleon 8, P.Petr. I 30(1), P.Petr. III 42h(4), P.Lond. III 503a, TM 7670): Letter of Philonides to his father Cleon on private matters. Philonides will send some linen cloths as soon as he receives them, and informs Cleon that Satyrus is in Memphis, ill.
Lower left papyrus (B) (P.Petr. I 30(2), P.Lond. III 503b, TM 78714): Fragment of a letter, the details being lost.
Lower right papyrus (C) (P.Petr. I 30(3), P.Lond. III 503c, TM 78715): Fragment of a letter, mentioning Canopus; the details are lost.

Three papyrus fragments from mummy cartonnage, written on one side and mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (A): mutilated at the sides; 7 lines written on the front along the fibres; the upper and lower margins measure 20 mm.
Lower left papyrus (B): Left portion of a dark-brown papyrus sheet, with surface damage and plaster residue; the front bears the beginnings of 6 lines, written along the fibres.
Lower right papyrus (C): Fragment of a papyrus sheet, broken off at all sides, with traces of plaster and some surface damage. Portions of 8 lines run along the fibres on the front. There is a sheet-join.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: A: 105 x 240 mm; B: 100 x 92 mm; C: 113 x 127 mm. Housed in a glass frame measuring 305 x 275 mm.
Script: A: Thin, regular upright hand, with right-pointing serifs and occasional ligatures. Same hand as P.Petrie Kleon 7, 9, 10, 11 and 15. B-C: Broad and large upright hands; C exhibits occasional serifs.

Origin: A: Alexandria, Egypt. B-C: Arsinoite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Gurob, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 486-603 by Henry Martyn Kennard (b. 1833, d. 1911) in May 1895. The papyri had been extracted from mummy cartonnages found in Gurob by William Matthew Flinders Petrie (b. 1853, d. 1942) in 1889-1890.
