Fragmentary letter whose sender and recipient are lost, reporting on matters related to irrigation: the sluice gates in Montila, a canal in the Arsinoite nome, have been closed, and it is necessary to decide whether one gate in Ptolemais should be closed. With date at the end.

Fragment of a papyrus slip from mummy cartonnage, with plaster residue, lacking the left-hand portion and with surface damage. It was folded in half. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. The ends of 5 lines remain, with a modern annotation at the top, indicating the mummy case from which the papyrus derives. A small fragment has been inserted upside down in the gap in line 2, amd does not belong to the papyrus. Upper and lower margins measure 20 mm and 10 mm respectively; the right margin is minimal. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Origin: Arsinoite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Gurob, Egypt. Destination: Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 486-603 by Henry Martyn Kennard (b. 1833, d. 1911) in May 1895. The papyri had been extracted from mummy cartonnages found in Gurob by William Matthew Flinders Petrie (b. 1853, d. 1942) in 1889-1890.
