Letter of Marnes to Nektenibis, Atibis and others, reassuring them that the time left for them to stay there is little: the change-over is being prepared and the elephant hunters will soon be there. They should expect a supply of grain from Heroonpolis. Marnes inquires about the price of grain after the sink of a ship transporting elephants.

Three fragments of a long and narrow papyrus sheet from mummy cartonnage, with holes and surface damage throughout; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. Part of one column remains, with some lines lost in between the fragments; traces of ink are visible in the left margin. A sheet-join runs along the height in the right margin. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Dimensions: Upper fragment: 100 x 102; Middle fragment: 137 x 118; Lower fragment: 88 x 101 mm. Housed in a glass case measuring 370 x 170 mm.
Script: Large, uneven, thin, cursive hand, rough and rapid; with addition above the line.

Origin: Arsinoite nome (?), Egypt.
Provenance: Gurob, meris of Herakleides, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Destination: Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 486-603 by Henry Martyn Kennard (b. 1833, d. 1911) in May 1895. The papyri had been extracted from mummy cartonnages found in Gurob by William Matthew Flinders Petrie (b. 1853, d. 1942) in 1889-1890.
