Upper papyrus (A) (P.Petrie Kleon 79, P.Petr. II 42a, P.Petr. III 43(1), P.Lond. III 584a descr., TM 7448): Fragmentary circular of Aristander to various officials, stating that Theodorus, vice-engineer, is in charge of dykes and sluices. Dated to 25 October 250 BC-24 October 249 BC.
Lower papyrus (B) (P.Petr. II 42b, P.Petr. III 42i, P.Lond. III 584b descr., TM 7675): Letter of Cleon to Paion, asking him to send a donkey, urgently needed for the transport of fodder. Cleon is about to depart.

Two papyrus sheets from mummy cartonnage, housed in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (A): Light brown, broken off at the bottom, lacking part of the right-hand portion and with holes in places. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank; 9 lines survive; upper and left margins measure 40 and 15 mm respectively; the right margin survives from line 5 and measures 25 mm.
Lower papyrus (B): Mid-dark brown, with surface damage; 6 lines written on the front along the fibres, and traces of writing running across the fibres on the back. Lower and left margins are extant on the front.

Script: A: Official cursive hand. B: Rough and irregular cursive hand, with corrections.

Origin: Arsinoite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Gurob, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 486-603 by Henry Martyn Kennard (b. 1833, d. 1911) in May 1895. The papyri had been extracted from mummy cartonnages found in Gurob by William Matthew Flinders Petrie (b. 1853, d. 1942) in 1889-1890.
