Upper papyrus (A) (P.Hib. I 21, TM 61237): Fragment of a papyrus roll extracted from mummy cartonnage and containing parts of Homer, Iliad VIII, with several plus-verses. Additional fragments of the same roll are Papyrus 1827 (preserving Iliad VIII 17-22, 24-32, 38-73, 180-4, 189-90, 203-6, 216-21. 249-53, 255-8 + unidentified lines), and P.Heid. inv. 1261 (preserving Iliad VIII 190-202). This fragment, together with Papyrus 1827(M), bears portions of Iliad VIII 216(a)-219, 249-53.
Lower papyrus (B) (P.Hib. I 20, TM 61206): Fragment of a papyrus roll extracted from mummy cartonnage and containing parts of Homer, Iliad IV 109-113. Additional fragments of the same roll are preserved in Papyrus 1826, which contains Iliad III 347-51, 354-6, 383-94, Iliad IV 19-22, 55-72, 80-83, 86-91, 98-102, and Iliad V 525-32, 796-803. The text displays absence of plus-verses and omits three lines (Iliad III 389, IV 89, V 527).

Two fragments that do not belong together, extracted from mummy cartonnage; with writing on one side, their back being blank; mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (A): Further fragments are Papyrus 1827 and P.Heid. inv. 1261; Broken off on all sides, with plaster residue and traces of red paint; portions of two columns; of the first column, the ends of four lines survive, of the second, the beginnings of eight lines and a small trace of ink from another line at the bottom.
Lower Papyrus (B): The fragment belongs to Papyrus 1826; broken off on all sides, with portions of five lines, and traces of another line at the top. The original column had about 40 lines.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: A: 49 x 102 mm; B: 29 x 60 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 155 x 155 mm.
Script: A: Small, slightly sloping book hand, with archaic form of omega and contrast between narrow and broad letterforms. B: Carefully formed, angular bookhand; lettrs are regularly spaced, overall bilinear, although some uprights extend above and below the writing line; some letters, like omicron and sigma, are smaller and narrower.

Provenance: Ankyropolis (El-Hiba), Egypt. Both fragments were purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 689-731 from Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) in November 1896.
