Victor and Colluthus, serving on the gubernatorial boat, write to another Victor and others, complaining about the fact that they had imposed a compulsory service on Aurelius Senuthes, and urging them to release him. Senuthes was in fact expected to perform another service, inherited from his father, and serve as an oarsman in the governor’s boat. With final greetings repeated twice, and docket on the back. Traces of an earlier text are visible on the back.

Papyrus sheet, darkened in places, lacking the bottom left corner and with few holes, but well preserved as to the rest. White residue is visible on the back.
Writing runs on both sides: on the front there is one column of 29 lines written along the fibres. Margins are extant and minimal, with the exception of the left margin, which measures x mm. A sheet-join running along the height of the sheet is visible in the right edge. On the back there was one column written across the fibres, which was erased, and two lines written along the fibres. The papyrus is housed in a glass case.

Script: Neat, thin cursive hand of medium size, with a slight slant to the right. Rough and irregular hand, sloping to the right, for the greetings in lines 24-29.

Provenance: Panopolis (Akhmim), Panopolite nome, Egypt. Found with Papyri 719-721. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 688-731 from Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) in November 1896.
