The upper portion of a leaf from a papyrus codex containing verses from Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, one side having verses 375-385 written across the fibres, with heading letters in the upper margin, the other side containing verses 429-441 written along the fibres. Corrections were added by a different hand, which also seems to have been responsible for accents, breathings, quantity marks, occasionally occurring; elision and paragraphoi were possibly marked by the first hand.

Upper portion of a leaf from a papyrus codex, preserving part of one column on each side; broken at the bottom but well preserved as to the rest. The upper margin survives to 3 cm. Ink is faded at places; the heading letter on one side, added at a later stage, is in black ink, the rest being in brown ink; housed in one glass case. Number 22 in red refers to the publication in P.Oxy.

Origin: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by B. P. Grenfell and A. S. Hunt on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
