Notification from the senate of Oxyrhyncus through its representant, addressed to the strategus Aurelius Apollonius through his delegate, informing that a certain Theodorus, who had been selected for attending the prefect’s court in Alexandria in place of another man, had claimed exemption as a victor in the games. A new man has now been appointed in his stead and should be dispatched with all speed. Dated in the 8th year of Diocletian and 7th of Maximian, Thoth 16 (11 February 292). On the back there are very faded traces of six short lines.

Papyrus sheet bearing writing on both sides, the text on the front running along the fibres and that on the back across the fibres; damaged by gaps and wormholes. Housed in one glass case. Number 59 in red refers to the publication in P.Oxy I.

Origin: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by B. P. Grenfell and A. S. Hunt on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
