Recto (P.Oxy. I 71)
Column 1 (TM 12591): Petition to the prefect Clodius Culcianus from Aurelius Demetrius, son of Nilus, former high-priest in Arsinoe, asking for the prefect’s help in order to recover the money he had lent to Aurelius Sotas, who had refused to pay back the loan. Dated 28 February 303.
Column 2 (TM 12592): Petition to the prefect Clodius Culcianus from a widow whose name is damaged, complaining about the conduct of the managers of her estate in the Arsinoite nome, whom she had hired while her sons were in the army.
Column 3 (TM 704823): Beginning of another petition, of which little remains. Unpublished.
Verso (P.Bagnall 43, TM 33771): Fourth-century inventory of columns of various buildings, providing measurements.

Medium-brown papyrus roll with detached fragment, broken off to the right (front), shredded at the bottom and worm-eaten throughout; written on both sides. The front bears two columns written along the fibres and portions of a third column; on the back, there are 3 columns written across the fibres and portions of another column; one line is written in the right margin parallel to the fibres and perpendicularly to the columns. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by Bernard P. Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) and Arthur S. Hunt (b. 1871, d. 1934) on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
