Upper fragment: Recto (P.Oxy. I 81, P.Lond. III 757 descr., TM 20741): Declaration on oath addressed to Aurelius Dius alias Pertinax, strategus in Oxyrhynchus, from Aurelius Apion, son of Dionysius, before entering upon his duties as a tax collector (praktor argyrikon). Dated in the 2nd year of Marcus Julius Philippus.
Verso (P.Lond. III 758v. descr., TM 31961): Account for part of the month of Epeiph, with sums stated in drachmas, unpublished.
Lower fragment (P.Oxy. I 82, P.Lond. III 758 descr., TM 31341): Fragmentary declaration on oath by a strategus on entering the office. The man will undertake his duties justly and provides Aurelius Ammonius as a surety for his good behaviour.

Two fragments from different documents, the upper one bearing writing on both sides and broken off at the bottom; the ink on the recto is somewhat rubbed off.
The lower fragment lacks both the upper and the lower portions and bears writing on one side only, the text being written along the fibres.
The fragments are housed together in one glass case. Numbers 81 and 82 in red refer to the publication in P.Oxy I.

Script: Small cursive hands in the declarations, rough semi-uncial hand on the back of Papyrus 757.

Origin: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by B. P. Grenfell and A. S. Hunt on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
