Receipt addressed to Valerius Ammonianus alias Gerontius, logistes (curator) of the Oxyrhynchite nome, from the guild of ironworkers, acknowledging the payment of six silver talents from the state bank in Oxyrhynchus, on account of the iron supplied for public works. Dated in the consulship of Caecinius Sabinus and Vettius Rufus, Hathyr 5 (1 November 316); with autograph subscription of Aurelius Severus, monthly president of the guild, at the end.

Papyrus sheet written on one side along the fibres, the upper layer being somewhat damaged in places. Mounted on cardboard in one glass case. Number 84 in red refers to the publication in P.Oxy I.

Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by B. P. Grenfell and A. S. Hunt on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
